Curriculum

PGY1

One block = 4 weeks

The first year curriculum is designed to reinforce and expand the knowledge and skills that are acquired in medical school. An extremely compact and highly organized year, the emphasis is on acute inpatient care with a solid introduction to Blackstock's ambulatory population.

Emergency Medicine (UMCB)

Shift work (ten 12hr shifts)

Family Medicine Inpatient Service (UMCB)

Call every third day 8:00am-8:00pm only, overnight on weekends (with upper level resident)

Internal Medicine Wards (UMCB)

Call every fifth night

2 blocks

Obstetrics Service (UMCB; AWH)

12 Hr Shifts

Nursery (UMCB)

Call every fourth night

Pediatric Wards (DCMC)

Call every fourth night

Surgery (UMCB)

16 Hr Shifts

3 weeks vacation in PGY-1

Ambulatory FM Clinic PGY 1 - Increased clinical time in the Blackstock Family Health Center; emphasis on chronic disease management, including the completion of self-assessment modules in diabetes, hypertension and asthma.
